Laura Ingalls Wilders’ Seventh Heaven!

I just finished reading the entire series of the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  I learnt an interesting fact about her: she hated making button holes.  She detested making them so much, she learnt how to make them just right very quickly, in order to get them over and done with as soon as possible.  Consequently, she once made 60 buttonholes in one hour by hand.

I’m not sure if I could do that with a sewing machine – but anywho, I needed to learn to make buttonholes, so we turned to our trusty friend, Google, who led us to the above video.  I’d like to know what made me think buttonholes were so hard and awful to make.  Oh yeah – probably Laura.  😉

We use a Janome sewing machine, but as long as you have a sewing machine with a buttonhole setting, you’re right to go.

Laura Ingalls would have loved this!

  1. I don’t have a problem making button holes. In fact, I almost find them rather fun! I’m not sure what I would think about doing it by hand, though.

Isn’t it interesting that instead of being sloppy, or lazy, or irresponsible about doing buttonholes, instead Laura learned how to make them quickly, and right? I think that is an attitude about things I don’t like to do that I need to learn!
