One of the bigger shocks of my life occurred today: Julia Gillard is the new Prime Minister of Australia.
Mr Kevin Rudd stepped down from Prime Minister this morning after nearly completing his first term. Although we don’t agree with everything Mr Rudd stands for, I feel like I did when Steve Irwin died and Mr John Howard lost the election in 2007: sad, nervous, and not sure if I like what is happening.
It will be interesting to see how the future months unfold. Ms Gillard is the first woman Prime Minister Australia has ever had, and she is also the minister of education and is working on establishing a nation-wide curriculum.
My brother Josh follows Andrew Bolt, a popular journalist who writes for The Herald Sun, and he has been blogging consistently throughout the day about today’s turnover in PM. For more information read what Mr Bolt has to share.
I barely follow politics, but this incident certainly whets my appetite to understand the under goings of my beloved country.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
Don’t lean on your own understanding
In all your ways acknowledge him,
And he will direct your paths. – Proverbs 3:5, 6
